Depression: Silence can kill, Seeking help can save!

“I woke up like feeling directionless, I didn't know where to go, I didn't know what to do and I had these bouts of feeling so low that I would just start crying at the drop of the hat.” This was Deepika Padukone in an interview in the year 2015.

Here is what Shaheen Bhatt recently said, “I have been living with depression since I was 12 years old and now it's been 20 years with depression. Just like you go to a doctor to treat diabetes, similarly, you must go to a doctor to treat mental illness. There is a cure for it. It does not mean you are crazy."
The World Health Organisation has recently revealed that more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression around the globe. Mental illness is taking a toll on the health of people. More women suffer from depression than men. The sad part is many people do not seek help!

Depression is a type of mental health disease characterized by persistent low mood most of the time. It is not supposed to be confused with usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges at work and home in daily life.

There is not only one factor but an interaction of more than one factor that can lead to depression. These factors involve social, psychological, and biological factors. Adverse events in life such as unemployment, grief after the loss of a loved one, psychological trauma can give rise to depression.
Bad physical health can also be the reason for depression and depression can also lead to bad physical health. It has been seen, for instance, cardiovascular diseases can lead to depression and vice-versa.

A specific season can also be responsible for seasonal depression in some people. The ladies who have given birth to their babies can be the sufferers of post-partum depression. Depression can also be classified as clinical depression, bipolar depression, persistent depressive disorder.
