Corona virus: An Unwanted and Dangerous Guest!

No one in 1960 knew when a strain of coronavirus was identified from the nasal discharges of common-cold patients that this is the same virus that would cause a pandemic in the world. The strain of coronavirus, known as SARS – CoV was responsible for causing the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome outbreak in the year 2003. MERS- CoV, the mutated strain of coronavirus was responsible for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome outbreak in the years 2005, 2012, and 2015.

The recent pandemic which has its origin in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019 is caused by COVID-19 and has affected the lives of people all over the world. The number of cases of coronavirus infection has reached over 338,259 and it has taken the lives of 14,457 people in the world. The numbers are sadly rising. The current situation of Italy is among the worst situations faced by any country due to any pandemic. India is at risk of community spread if appropriate precautions are not taken by one and all.

Let us begin by knowing that the symptoms of coronavirus infection can range from mild to severe. They can include sore throat, fever, dry cough, headache, breathing difficulties and may progress to pneumonia and may prove fatal. The effects of coronavirus do not remain limited to respiratory organs but may also damage vital organs of the body such as kidneys. These symptoms become more indicative of coronavirus infection in India if you have been in contact with a coronavirus patient or if you have come from a country where coronavirus infections are prevalent.
With a population of 130 billion people, India cannot afford to ignore precautionary measures. Let us keep a check on our to-do list during this time:

·        Wash your hands every two hours!

Use soap and water to wash your hands every two hours. Use alcohol-based sanitizer if available. Wash your hands as soon as you come back home or enter your office. Do the same when you touch someone’s belongings such as mobile phones. Do not forget to moisturize your hands after washing as people with dry skin and skin diseases such as psoriasis can aggravate their condition.

·        Cover your face while sneezing and coughing!

It might be a common cold or seasonal flu but the best is to follow respiratory hygiene. Cover your face while coughing and sneezing with a tissue or handkerchief.  Dispose of the tissue immediately into a covered dustbin and wash the handkerchief as soon as you reach home with surf or soap.

·        Practice social distancing at home too!

Grandparents and grandchildren shall especially keep a distance of 1 meter at home. Social distancing in public places is definitely a must. Keep appropriate distance with a person who is coughing and sneezing as coronavirus and other viral infections can spread through air droplets.

·        Do not greet with handshakes, hugs, and kisses!

Coronavirus transmits with direct contact. So, all the hugs, kisses and handshakes can wait. Namaste, salaam and hi are perfect to greet each other. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands too!

·        Follow the lockdown orders!

In the states and towns where lockdown has been announced; please stay at home and stay safe. Meeting your relatives and friends is possible for life if life remains. So not risk your health as well as the health of others by organizing and visiting get-togethers and parties. Such a party may become some one’s last party. Do not create crowded places and avoid crowded places completely.

·        Self-isolation is necessary!

If you have returned from a foreign nation or have come in contact with a person affected with the coronavirus, immediately quarantine yourself for a period of at least 14 days even if the screening tests are negative. You can prevent thousands of lives by staying at home.

·        Wear Masks if in close contact with affected or if affected!

Please do use masks if you have been infected or are giving service to an infected person. People with chronic diseases such as asthma, kidney diseases, diabetes, and elderly people are not advised to step out at all. If it is urgent, use a mask. Healthy people can do without a mask if they are not visiting a crowded place and are not coming in contact with a person infected with the coronavirus.

·        Digital consultation and digital payments shall be chosen!

If it is not urgent, avoid visiting your doctor in person. Take an appointment prior to visiting in case of urgency so that rush at the clinic can be avoided. Take your routine consultations on the phone and opt for digital payments to avoid transmission of the virus through cash. Take your medicines as and when prescribed by your doctor.
If dealing in cash is necessary, sanitize or wash your hands immediately after exchanging cash.

·        Indoor exercises, healthy meals and plenty of water!

Keep fit by exercising indoors so that you do not gain weight. Take healthy meals timely without skipping breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Drink water so that regular detoxification of the body remains in process.

·        Improve your immunity with prescribed Homeopathic Medicines!

Homeopathic medicines can be prescribed according to your body type and case history to improve your immunity which can prevent you from catching the coronavirus infection. Symptoms of seasonal flu can be dealt with homeopathic treatment. Patients with chronic diseases such as asthma shall not miss their prescribed homeopathic doses.

This hour of pandemic shall NOT be full of PANIC. One shall only follow PRECAUTIONS, PREVENTION, and PRESCRIPTION. Spread kindness and positivity. We shall all come out of it together!
